New payment set to replace Attendance Allowance next year involves no face-to-face assessments

The Scottish Government has announced proposals for the introduction of a new devolved benefit scheduled to be rolled out by 2025. The details have been published as part of an updated Social Security Programme Business Case.

Pension Age Disability Payment will replace Attendance Allowance as part of a phased pilot launch at the start in Autumn 2024 for new claimants, before rolling out nationwide in early 2025. Social Security Scotland also plans to launch Pension Age Winter Heating Assistance at the end of next year, although no details on this payment have been announced yet.

The new benefit will pay the same weekly rates as Attendance Allowance which is currently delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). However, it’s worth keeping in mind, the weekly payment rates for 2023/24 of either £68.10 or £101.75, may have changed by the time Pension Age Disability Payment launches due to annual uprating.
