New paving projects underway at Cave Run Lake

Visitors to Cave Run Lake could find it difficult to drive or park in some areas as improvement projects get underway. The Daniel Boone National Forest received over 5-point-2 million dollars to support paving improvement projects. The affected areas include the Twin Knobs Campgrounds and boat ramps and day use recreation areas along the north shore of Cave Run Lake.

John Kazmierski is the district ranger for the Cumberland Ranger District of the Daniel Boone National Forest. He said the money comes from the federal government.

“It is part of funding the US Forest Service received from the Great American Outdoors Act, a piece of legislation that Congress passed last year to help support recreation infrastructure backlog on national forests and public lands across the country.”

The work is expected to be completed before summer really gets rolling.

“So, we’re trying to get this project implemented, it will go just past Memorial Day weekend, but by doing it earlier in the year, we’re hoping to avoid some of the largest crowds we see at Cave Run Lake, which typically occur after Memorial Day weekend and through the heart of the summer.”

Kazmierski said Cave Run Lake sees nearly year-round use. He says around 250,000 visitors come to the recreation areas at the Lake each year.
