New owner has transformational plans for empty Debenhams site in the centre of Cardiff

One of the UK's biggest property firms has bought the empty Debenhams site in the centre of Cardiff and said it plans to transform the area used by the former department store.

Landsec said it plans to use the large site, which was shuttered in May 2021 and has been gathering dust ever since, for bars and restaurants and public spaces.

Debenhams closed in Cardiff nearly two years ago after online retailer Boohoo acquired the 244-year-old department store chain and closed all its stores and cost 12,000 jobs.
