New on DVD: Meta horror franchise goes to college in 'Scream VI'

The latest entry in the preeminent slasher movie franchise tops the DVD releases for the week of July 11.

"Scream VI": Ghostface takes Manhattan as he hunts down the Woodsboro crew who have gone off to college in this installment starring Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega and Courteney Cox.

" 'Scream' movies are like pizza — when they’re good, they’re great, and even when they’re not as good, they’re still satisfying," writes Tribune News Service critic Katie Walsh in her review. "Thankfully, 'Scream VI' is a tasty slice.

"Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.": This adaptation of the classic Judy Blume young adult novel follows the trials and tribulations of Margaret Simon, contending with puberty, sixth grade gender politics and real world existential questions in 1970 New Jersey. Starring Abby Ryder Fortson, Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates.

"Book Club: The Next Chapter": Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen return as the ladies of the randiest book club in Brentwood set out for a post-pandemic adventure in Italy in this sequel.

"Beau Is Afraid": Writer-director Ari Aster's latest film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a middle-aged man whose attempt to return home to visit his mother becomes a nightmarish odyssey of anxiety, guilt and shame.

"Sisu": In this hyperviolent Finnish import, a man kills Nazis in bloody, gruesome fashion.

"Knights of the Zodiac": Action adventure film about an orphan boy who discovers his destiny is written in the stars.

"The Starling Girl": In this drama, a 17-year-old girl from a fundamental Christian church in Kentucky pursues a relationship with a youth pastor who is a decade older.

"Carmen": Acclaimed ballet choreographer Benjamin Millepied makes his feature-film debut with this reimagining of the classic French novella that inspired the opera, featuring Paul Mescal and Melissa Barrera.

"Corsage": Vicky Krieps is dressed to empress in this stylish historical drama set in 19th-century Austria.

"Spoonful of Sugar": It helps the LSD go down in the most hallucinogenic way in this Shudder terror tale about a college student working as a nanny.

"The Black Demon": An idyllic vacation turns into a nightmare for a family after they encounter a ferocious prehistoric shark that will stop at nothing to protect its territory.

"To Catch a Killer": Shailene Woodley stars as a Baltimore police officer who finds herself in the middle of a manhunt as the authorities search for a serial killer.

"Walker: Season Three": The CW's Texas-set action drama returns, with Jared Padalecki reprising the lead role for a third season.

"After Hours": Martin Scorsese's 1985 dark comedy about a man's late-night adventure in New York is available on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD from the Criterion Collection.

"The Watermelon Woman": Black lesbian filmmaker Cheryl Dunye's 1996 feature debut in which she stars as a video store clerk who becomes interested in a 1930s actress is also getting a Criterion release on Blu-ray.

"Transformers: Rise of the Beasts": Set in 1994, two kids from Brooklyn team up with the Autobots and the Maximals to stop Unicron from destroying the planet in the latest entry in the "Transformers" franchise.

"The Monsters Without": Filipino sci-fi adventure flick about a global team of scientists who are working to stop an interdimensional foe.
