New on DVD: A family must confront its past in 'Montana Story'

Montana

A family drama set in Big Sky Country tops the DVD releases for the week of July 12.

"Montana Story": Estranged siblings fight over their ailing father, a beloved horse and what to do with the family ranch that's about to be repossessed in this indie film.

"Half the scenes in 'Montana Story,' which was shot in Paradise Valley, Montana, are framed by a horizon-spanning vista of snow-capped mountains," writes Boston Herald critic James Verniere in his review. "Yes, the sight gives the film a mythic, neo-Western quality. But this West is different from the old one. Men don’t wear sidearms and carry Winchesters. Words and money are today’s weapons."
