Jennifer Wilson has been appointed as the new nurse director at NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
Ms Wilson, who takes the reigns from professor Hazel Borland, will begin her new role on April 1.
Today she spoke of her delight at landing the role.
She said: “It is a privilege to provide professional leadership to the nurses, midwives and Allied Health Professionals of NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
“I very much look forward to the challenges and hard work to come and my thanks go to Hazel Borland for her guidance and leadership during her time at the board.”
The announcement of Ms Wilson’s arrival was today welcomed by chief executive Claire Burden.
She said: “I am delighted Jennifer has been successful in securing this post.
“She will provide expert professional clinical leadership to all of our nursing staff here at NHS Ayrshire & Arran.
“With her wealth of nursing experience Jenny will help ensure the highest standards of clinical practice among our nursing teams.”
Ms Wilson began her career as a staff nurse, qualifying in 1996. She has worked in a variety of settings including Orthopaedics, Intensive Care and Primary Care.
Her specialised expertise in quality improvement has seen her lead and support various improvement projects at both a local and national level.
She will replace Professor Borland, who is set to retire.
Claire Burden said: “I also want to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Nurse Director Professor Hazel Borland for the commitment and passion she has shown in the role, which she has held since 2016.
“She has worked for the NHS for 38 years and has made a positive impact and contribution in each board she has worked within during her time with the health service.
“Hazel has been Deputy Chief Executive here at NHS Ayrshire & Arran and following the departure of John Burns last year, she stepped up to be Interim Chief Executive for seven months.
“She has provided excellent leadership during the coronavirus pandemic and has helped local services adapt and continue to serve local people during extremely challenging times. We wish her well for her retirement.”
