New nightclub to open in South Shields town centre in time for Bank Holiday weekend

Nightlife in South Shields town centre is set to be given a boost when a new nightclub opens in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Maisy's bar and nightclub is set to open on Ocean Road in the venue that was once home to the former Can Can Bar and most recently, the Platinum Bar.

New owner Kaz Ahmed has recently taken over the 400-capacity venue which is currently undergoing a major refurbishment ahead of opening on Friday, May 26.

Around 12 jobs are set to be created by the new venue which aims to attract people of all ages with a mix of dance, clubland and R&B music.

Owner Kaz said it is the first nightclub he has taken on, however, he has years of experience in hospitality at the helm of a number of restaurants in the region. The 43-year-old told Chronicle Live that he hopes Maisy's will help revive the nightlife in the town centre following the closure of the former Can Can Bar and neighbouring club Roxanne's.

"We have stripped the whole place out to make it open plan with a nice sitting area and dance floor," he said.

"We have relocated the DJ booth, so there has been a lot of changes and a lot of investment into the venue.

"It is something that I have had my eye on for a while. I want to give something back to the town and bring something new to it as well.

"At one time the town was very busy but now that Roxanne's has gone there's nothing in this part of the town and I felt I needed to bring some nightlife to this corner of the street. We have had a good reaction and good feedback so far.

"We will be bringing DJs in from across the North East and further afield and will have special nights planned once a month with big names playing."

He added: "We are very excited to be opening. It is something new to us so fingers crossed everything goes well."

Maisy's will be open from 10pm to 2am on Friday, May 26 with plans to extend the licence to 4am.
