NASA has released fresh photographs showing the crater left behind after a discarded SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket stage slammed into the Moon earlier this month, giving scientists a closer look at the unexpected lunar collision.
The images were taken by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) on August 11 and 12, six days after the spacecraft first had an opportunity to pass over the impact site. Scientists estimate that the newly formed crater is about 60 feet (18 metres) across and less than 10 feet deep.
