Three very different but important Latin Music albums came out this week. The first and more solid one is Luis Fonsi's "EL VIAJE." The Puerto Rican star took his music to a new level on his eleventh album, with which he is celebrating 25 years as a professional in the music industry.
Álvaro Díaz dropped his sophomore record, "Sayonara," insisting that he is Alvarito no more. While this writer finds it hard to call him by his 'grownup name', his album is proof of his fantastic development as an artist. While Fonsi takes the listener through a journey of love and loss, enjoyment and nostalgia with songs like Santa Marta, the focus track of "EL VIAJE" and featuring Carlos Vives, Díaz is all about maturing and learning to let go in life.
The third very poweful album coming out this week is courtesy of Venezuelan duo Lagos. Luis Jiménez and Agustín Zubillaga are recognized musicians on their own right, and this emotional and deep record takes their musical collective to a new level. It's also a prelude to their "Alta Fidelidad Tour 2024," which kicks off in Mexico City on August 23.
Calibre 50 and Bacilos also released new albums, while the new live female collective Darumas dropped their first EP, with their funky song "Mago" as their focus track.
Regional mexicano stars look back
Natanael Cano the regional mexicano emerging trend of recording covers of classic ballads. El Nata chose "Ya te olvidé," immortalized by Rocío Durcal and composed by Marco Antonio Solis, "El Buki."
Xavi made a pit stop during his first tour to record "Ya te superé," featuring Tony Aguirre, marking the second time they work together. The song is a gem, with the classic regional mexicano metal doing the job of a sax, and the feelings all out.
Calibre 50 is promoting their single "Maybe," a smart bilingual play, and Chiquis is part of a third song in three weeks in a row. La Abeja Reina is featured in Don Elektron's "Pinche pari."
Latin Pop galore
Argentinian artist María Becerra's new song "Imán" emerges as a pop statement, infused with the distinctive influence of Stockholm, where countless pop hits were born under the guidance of Max Martin and Denniz Pop. The song was recorded at MXM Studios, alongside Richard Liohn and Xross (Ecuadorian producer from María's team), who imparted their distinctive touch. The result is a sound that blends European pop culture with the artist's unique magnetism.
Camila and Edén Muñoz released the Mexican ballad "Corazón en coma," and Paula Arenas and Carlos Rivera fuse their gifted voices in "Lo que mis ojos ven."
