New mock draft has Steelers trading back for cornerback

When the Pittsburgh Steelers go on the clock for its first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, there will be options. This will be especially true if a top quarterback happens to fall to No. 17. This is what happens with the Steelers in this new one-round mock draft on Sharp Football.

In this scenario, Kentucky Will Levis is on the board at No. 17 and the Minnesota Vikings move up to draft him. This slides the Steelers down to No. 23 where Pittsburgh selected Maryland cornerback Donte Banks. Here’s what Sharp had to say about Banks as the pick:

With Joey Porter Jr. off the board when they were on the clock at 17, Pittsburgh trades back to obtain additional draft capital and still gets one of the top corners in the draft. Throughout his entire career at Maryland, Banks only allowed 50+ yards in a game once and then registered a ridiculous 9.99 RAS at the combine.

Banks at 23 isn’t a bad choice for a team in need of a future No. 1 cornerback. Steelers brass didn’t attend the Maryland pro day which does bring into question if they would take him given the opportunity but the logic behind the move and the pick makes sense.
