Five others have been injured in the shooting that occurred at around 5pm local time on Saturday at the 41st annual Red River Memorial Motorcycle Rally, which drew about 20,000 bikers to the town.

Witnesses say the Red River area was on lockdown after the Memorial Day rally erupted into violence, when witnesses heard shots ring out of the packed bar.

THe identities of the three people who died in the 'shootout' is currently unknown.

The violence occurred between two retail stores and involved members of motorcycle gangs, Local mayor Linda Calhoun said in a video posted on Facebook.

“The shooters have all been apprehended,” she added. “There is no threat to the community at all.”

Most of Main Street in Red River, where the shooting occurred, was closed to the public for an investigation and officials have urged businesses in the area to remain closed on Sunday.

Ms Calhoun said: “Our number one priority is the safety and wellbeing of our local community.

“We appreciate your co-operation and understanding as we work through this very difficult time together.”

More than 25,000 bikers were expected to be in town for the rally this weekend between May 25 to May 29.
