New Mario Kart World update finally adds team races to the Switch 2 game's Knockout Tour mode

Nintendo continues to slowly update its big Switch 2 launch game, this time with an update adding team races to Mario Kart World's most chaotic mode.

The 1.5.0 update drifted into the kart racer earlier today, and the headlining feature is that Nintendo "added team races to Knockout Tour when playing in a room during 'Online Play' and 'Wireless Play.'"

The rules remain largely the same as team races in other Mario Kart World modes, with team members adding to a shared score based on their placement at the end of the race while the highest-scoring team nabs the trophy. I imagine there's a little more waiting around here than you're used to in the usually frantic series since Knockout Tour - as the name implies - knocks out waves of racers throughout the map-spanning matches.

Elsewhere in the game's patch notes, Mario Kart World now supports the Polish language, alongside a handful of bug fixes, including one "where the displayed rating would sometimes be incorrect" when joining a room in Online Play. It also mistakenly mentions a bug that occurs when you play as Kamek, who you might have noticed is very much not playable in the game, but don't get your hopes up for the magikoopa or incoming DLC just yet. It's probably a typo on Nintendo's part. (Bad Nintendo.)

Of course, Mario Kart World's also been treated to another classic Nintendo specialty: "Several other issues have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience." Phew, I was getting worried for a second.

Nintendo wants Mario Kart World to be a Switch 2 game fans will "continue to choose for years to come" like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and I hope that means DLC could be on the cards
