New life for Michael Schumacher in Majorca amid fears he may 'never be like he was before'

Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher's family have bought a £27 million villa in Majorca. It's been reported that they are starting a 'new life' on the island during the winter months.

Michael and wife Corina’s new pad is said to have been previously owned by Real Madrid boss Florentino Perez. The property boasts beautiful sea views down the Majorcan coast.

The luxury pad has two swimming pools, as well as a helipad and all the medical facilities needed for the seven-time world champion. As well as the villa, the Schumachers have also purchased the land surrounding, including olive trees and dilapidated buildings, reports the Irish Mirror.

The land is reported to have cost an eye-watering £2.2million, but it seems it could well be worthwhile for the German driver. The plot is described as ‘absolute rarity in the region of south-west Majorca’ due to its coastal location.

The Spanish island is set to be a familiar surrounding for the Schumachers, having spent many a holiday in Majorca, according to Die Bunte. Whilst updates on his health have been limited, wife Corina revealed last September that whilst he is ‘different’ he is ‘here’.

She said: “He still shows me how strong he is every day. We live together at home.

"We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he's comfortable.

"And to simply make him feel our family, our bond. And no matter what, I will do everything I can.

“We all will. We're trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does.

"And we are getting on with our lives. ‘Private is private', as he always said.

"It's very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible. Michael always protected us, and now we are protecting Michael."

Leading neurosurgeon Erich Riederer previously offered his prognosis on Schumacher's condition following his skiing accident in a documentary on French TV channel TMC.

He said in September 2020: "I think he's in a vegetative state, which means he's awake but not responding.

"He is breathing, his heart is beating, he can probably sit up and take baby steps with help, but no more. I think that's the maximum for him.

"Is there any chance of seeing him like he was before his accident? I really don't think so."
