A beloved Caribean eatery is opening its doors in Kirkgate, Leeds.
Said to have "incredible food", and "delicious cocktails", Jamrock is an independent bar and eatery opening in Kirkgate. The new spot will open in the former Domino's Pizza spot in Wade Lane.
Jamrock originally opened an eatery in Leeds city centre's popular Call Lane - gaining an excellent reputation, growing in popularity and raking in five star reviews. Owners decided it was time for a move, but there was some relunctancy at first about the site being used for hospitality.
The unit features an outdoor courtyard which residents feared would create a lot of noise late at night. At a hearing on October 11 it was said that the opening of the Caribbean restaurant would help cultural and economic growth and as it is a food based offering, will not cause significant noise disruption.
Two councillor approved the application and alcohol license after it was promised the outdoor area would not be used by customers. Jamrock owner Oral Blackford is bringing a menu filled with Carribean classics to the new spot.
He said: "Our philosophy is good food, good friends, and good times - and that starts with the best traditional Caribbean cuisine in Leeds. Every plate of our food is made with love and soul, all for you to enjoy together with friends and family."
Menu favourites includes jerk chicken, ackee and starfish, curried goat, chicken strips, jerk or BBQ wings, jackfruit, pepper steak, and even a speciality platter. There is also a bottomless brunch on offer for £27.50 per person, including a main dish, a side, and 90 minutes of free-flowing prosecco, beers, or soft drinks.
Jamrock is known for shaking up house classic cocktails including The Blue Mountain, Rum Punch, and Rum on the Beach. When the spot first opened in Call Lane hundreds of reviews were left.
"Food was amazing, cocktails were lovely and service was brilliant, they looked after us even after a drink was spilt accidentally," one TripAdvisor reviewer said. Another added: "Really tasty authentic Caribbean food, great service, fantastic cocktails and brilliant early evening music."
While there is no official opening date for the new Kirkgate spot it is said to be opening soon.
