A new leader has been announced for a Conservative group in Nottinghamshire after the former leader lost his seat during the local elections. The results announced for Newark and Sherwood District Council on Friday, May 5, meant that a number of Conservative councillors across the district lost their seats, including the leader of the council, David Lloyd, as the party went from holding 29 seats to 14.
Following the election, the new leader of the Newark Conservative party has been announced as Councillor Rhona Holloway, who represents the Bilsthorpe ward. In a Facebook post, she wrote: "I am thrilled to announce I have been elected as the new Leader of the Conservative group at Newark and Sherwood District Council.
"Such an honour to be chosen to take on this role and to have the support of the outgoing leader David Lloyd, he has been a superb leader and will be sorely missed by everyone."
Newark and Sherwood District Council remains without a leader after the Conservatives lost their majority. The council is working to select a new leader.
