New James Bond: Odds slashed on Cillian Murphy following in footsteps of Pierce Brosnan as the next 007

Cillian Murphy could be set to follow in the footsteps of Pierce Brosnan as the next James Bond.

The Peaky Blinders’ star has his odds cut to 28/1 in the race to become next 007 according to William Hill’s next James Bond market .

Despite previously denying rumours, fans are convinced Murphy will be the next Bond, who is currently played by Daniel Craig.

But Cillian responded to the rumours saying that “I think it should be a woman, which rules me out”.

But fans aren’t convinced that he’s not still a shoe-in for the role.

A William Hill spokesperson said: “It’s no surprise that Cillian Murphy is a good fit for the role, as his work on Peaky Blinders clearly showed that he’s no stranger to portraying a gritty role that touches on difficult themes.

“It’s also high time that we saw another Irish Bond enter the foray - after all, Pierce Brosnan played one of the best James Bond to date, so why not have Murphy pick up where Brosnan left off?”

Cillian would be the second Irish actor to play the seductive spy after Pierce Brosnan, who set down his martini glass back in 2004 after holding the role for an impressive nine years.

The Dunkirk actor has an impressive CV that could make him a favourite for the role after starring in big productions like Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies, 28 Days Later, and A Quiet Place Part II.

Another Irish contender includes 50 Shades and Belfast actor Jamie Dornan with the odds of 12/1.
