The series follows ex-naval lieutenant Bobby Jones who drifts from job to job in his home town of Marchbolt on the north Wales coast. However, one day while caddying for Dr Alwyn Thomas, Bobby stumbles upon a stranger who has fallen from a cliff and broken his back.
Despite Bobby's best efforts to save him, the man dies, but not before telling Bobby: "Why didn't they ask Evans?" Plagued by the question, Bobby teams up with Lady Frances Derwent to investigate exactly what happened to the stranger.
Following the first episode on Sunday, April 9, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans received rave reviews from critics. The Guardian gave the series five out of five stars, saying it was a 'classic whodunnit with delight in every scene'.
The Telegraph said 'foul murder has rarely been this feelgood' in their four-star review of Why Didn’t They Ask Evans and on Rotten Tomatoes, the show received 100% on the Tomatometer.
