A brand new international supermarket has opened in a Nottingham shopping precinct. Himalaya World Foods opened at the Compton Acres shopping centre, near West Bridgford, less than a week ago but is already receiving positive feedback from customers.
Surrounded by other independent shops and big chains, inside the new shop, you’ll find fresh vegetables, spices, drinks, frozen foods and more. The shop owner, who declined to be named, said: “The shop opened last Sunday and this is my first business.
“There’s a big Asian community in the area so there’s spices here, ready-to-eat meals and all oriental products. I’m local to the area and I’ve seen that if you don’t have a car, commuting is the first of its kind.”
The owner added: “People have said to me that this shop should have opened a long time ago and the feedback has been really good from people.
“People keep on letting us know what else they want to see here and we will deliver this.” Shoppers also voiced their thoughts on the new, small supermarket. Heena Mindal, 31 lives in West Bridgford.
Heena, who is self employed, said: “I think this shop here will do well, I’ve been in already and they seem to sell a bit of everything and it isn’t overly expensive either. Inclusivity and diversity is so important and it’s nice to see that being promoted with this new shop.”
Sharon Needham, a 45-year-old dinner lady from West Bridgford, added: “I had no idea this was opening, I don’t shop in the precinct all the time but I come here once every now and again.”
Sharon continued: “I’ll definitely go in for spices and drinks, the Tesco Express on the precinct can be expensive so it’s good to know there’s another option.”
