New hub for disabled golfers is launched in West Lothian

Scottish Disability Golf & Curling have teamed up with Greenburn Golf Club to launch a state-of-the-art hub designed for disabled golfers.

The Fauldhouse-based club have had a long-standing partnership with the charity after having hosted events over the years but they have joined forces to set up a permanent hub at the club.

While golfers are able to take to the course, they now have access to a new indoor Trackman simulator that allows them to play - virtually - hundreds of courses around the world with a slew of data points being measured to help golfers make tweaks and improvements to their game.

June Close, Greenburn Golf Club captain, commented: “We’ve been hosting events with Scottish Disability Golf & Curling for a few years and we were keen to build on that.

“We’re a very forward thinking club and the disability hub and the state of the art Trackman studio are really positive additions that help grow the game and make is accessible.”

Mark Drummond, who suffers from PTSD following his time in the military, spoke passionately about the hub and the benefits it has provided.

He said: “The studio is amazing because it’s brilliant technology. I assume teaching disabled golfers will be different to teaching able-bodied golfers and having that technology is a huge bonus to our game.

“It’s brilliant for Greenburn to have the hub here and it’s good for the folks who come.

“They get to mingle and be part of an inclusive environment. The indoor studio is definitely handy during the winter too when you’re less likely to be out on the course. It gets you out and still being involved when maybe you wouldn’t be otherwise.”

He added: “I’ve been playing golf since 2015 and for me, it’s part of my treatment process.

“The health benefits of playing the game are incredible and it’s made such a difference to me and had a hugely positive impact.

“The SDGC are a very inclusive charity. It doesn’t matter what your disability is, you can come and play golf and Greenburn share that view. It’s brilliant.
