The Horrified board game series is returning to the world of D&D, this time taking players to the appropriately terrifying realm of Ravenloft.
GamesRadar+ can exclusively announce Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons – Ravenloft, a new installment of the Horrified franchise and the second title to merge the monster-hunting board game series with D&D. In this new version, players will work together to face off against four new threats, including the iconic vampire Count Strahd Von Zarovich. The game will be released on July 19th, with pre-orders available now through Target if you want to add it to your collection of the best board games.
In Horrified, players roam across the board, collecting items used to defeat various monsters. In Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons – Ravenloft, players will challenge up to four new monsters: Ravenloft’s most dangerous Darklord, Strahd, the murderous living doll Carrionette, the witch Baba Lysaga and her walking hut, and the sentient, supernatural Gulthias Tree. Each monster has different conditions needed to defeat it and can fell innocent bystanders with a single attack. Players will have to protect bystanders and guide them across the board, while simultaneously avoiding the monsters and collecting items along the way.
The first Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons game introduced unique characters based on D&D classes, each of which had abilities that were activated by the roll of a d20. Ravenloft builds on this by introducing five new player classes: the Ranger, Druid, Sorcerer, Paladin, and Warlock. As with their predecessors, they all have abilities that are activated by a d20 roll, with the number rolled determining which ability is activated.
As with some previous Horrified games, players can mix and match the monsters of Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons – Ravenloft with the previous Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons game, along with several previous installments.
The new Horrified game was designed by Peter Lee, who has designed 15 other Dungeons & Dragons-based games to date (including last year’s Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons). Lee is also behind the popular Lords of Waterdeep and the Castle Ravenloft game, which features Count Strahd as a villain.
The timing of Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons – Ravenloft comes shortly after the reveal of another visit to that horror-soaked realm. D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast recently showed off Ravenloft: The Horror Within that brings back our favorite setting with new subclasses, new ancestries, and new details on the iconic Darklords who are both prisoners and rulers of the setting. This is part of D&D’s "Season of Horror," the first in several planned seasons coinciding with the release of various D&D products announced at GAMA 2026.
"As someone who's run two Curse of Strahd campaigns and has loved Horrified since the series launched back in 2019, I think it's safe to say I'm on board with this crossover. It also gets my blood pumping a lot more than last year's D&D Horrified game did, great though that was. I don't think the series has ever been better than when it embraced its gothic roots with Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, and the rest of Universal's roster, so visiting Ravenloft revives the aesthetic without rehashing old glories. The 2025 Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons was one of the strongest installments of Horrified yet, with the d20 roll providing an extra twist to ensure that no player’s turn went unwasted. With new character classes to choose from and new monsters to fight, Horrified: Dungeons & Dragons – Ravenloft will be great for either longterm fans of Dungeons & Dragons or for those interested in immersing themselves in one of D&D’s best-known worlds.
