New Hibs boss Lee Johnson intends to play 'high-tempo' football as he opens up on recruitment

Lee Johnson has revealed he intends to play a high-tempo brand of football at Hibs.

The new Easter Road gaffer was officially confirmed earlier today after putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

He replaces Shaun Maloney, who only lasted four months in the job, following a poor run of form.

The 40-year-old, who has managed the likes of Sunderland and Bristol City in the past, says attacking football is KEY to what he wants to achieve as he opened up on the praise he received from superstar boss Pep Guardiola.

Speaking in his first interview with Hibs' official media team, he said: "That was a nice moment. Having been around the City group and Pep Guardiola a couple of times you see the quality shines through, so to get that accolade off people like that was amazing.

"I want to play a high-tempo brand of football, I turn the dial to quite attacking during the games.

"We've got a team and players that naturally fit in but of course we're going to have to recruit to try and enhance that.

"The attacking football is key for me. All my strikers tend to score goals which becomes really important. We want to feed the strikers early.

"Possession isn't a key factor for me, it's more about the principles of the individual position and we want to recruit around that and make sure that whatever formation we play, our consistency of our playing style is aggressive, front foot.

"I'll try and win every game, I guarantee you that, sometimes to our detriment. But when we go to the big boys, we're going to go to win, 100 per cent. We'll make sure we're super aggressive in our playing style."

On summer recruitment, he added: "I believe that I'll be backed, I wouldn't be here if I didn't.

"It's down to me to make sure I sign off on the players but there's a whole team that goes behind that.

"A manager's job is so diverse, there's so many areas of it where you have to be the best you possibly can. But you obviously recruit good staff and good people to be able to enhance that process and I'm really comfortable with the process and clarity and I'm looking forward to bringing in good players.

"There's a lot of young players at the club, we will bring more young players to the club.

"But hopefully that will aid our playing style to be aggressive, to be robust, to play forward, to run forward, to have good cohesion between the units."
