A Harry Potter television series has officially been announced, produced at Max, the streaming service previously known as HBO Max.
The brand new series will be a retelling of all seven books written about the boy wizard, by Scotland's very own JK Rowling. Casting for the show will take place over the next nine months, according to The Times.
Hero Talent Group founder Nicole Tasker told The Times that a number of actors will be picked through open calls, through the likes of social medias and local drama companies.

Nicole said: "The casting team will do open calls on social media, go to local drama groups and contact all the child agencies. It used to just be the big drama schools, but everything is more open now."
A statement from the newly branded Max explained: “The stories from each of Rowling’s Harry Potter books will become a decade-long series produced with the same epic craft, love and care this global franchise is known for.
"The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years.
“Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”
JK Rowling is set to executively produce the series alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts. David Heyman, who produced all eight of the Harry Potter films, is also in discussions to join the team, as per the Hollywood Reporter.
Rowling said in a statement: "Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series."
Who is rumoured for the cast of Max's Harry Potter series?
Despite reports that a handful of actors will be picked through open calls, a rumoured cast list for the reboot has already gone viral across social media.
British actor Toby Woolf is rumoured to be taking over from Daniel Radcliffe as the newest Harry Potter. Toby has been in productions like Rare Beasts, Pistol and The Last Post.
Also, Game of Thrones star Bronte Carmichael could be the new Hermione, with Joshua Pickering - Peter Pan and Wendy - could be lined up to be her beau, Ron Weasley.
In addition, Draco Malfoy himself Tom Felton is apparently set to return to the franchise as Lucius Malfoy, his original character’s father.
But these are just rumours at this point, and fans will have to wait for more information.
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max content said: "We have been trying to be very close to the vest.
“We haven’t gone out to agencies. We have our own internal process where we’ve been thinking about people but we have not wanted to go out into the world. Now that the news is out there… we’ll start going out to the business.”
When will the Harry Potter TV series be released?
The new Harry Potter TV series is expected to arrive in 2025/26, so fans will have quite a while to wait.
However, with Warner Bros Discovery revamping its streaming service, the company will probably be keen to get the new show on the platform as soon as possible.
