New Hampshire Primary: Democrats Stand United Against Trump's Re-Election

Live pictures from Nashua showing Republican primary for presidential nominee.

Voters in Nashua, New Hampshire, are participating in the primary elections today to select the Republican and Democratic nominees who will compete against President Joe Biden in the general election. The race for the Republican nomination has narrowed down to two contenders: former President Donald Trump and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Trump, aiming for another resounding victory after his success in the Iowa caucuses, faces an upset attempt by Haley.

While the Republican primary is gaining attention, it is worth noting that a Democratic primary is also taking place today. President Biden's name, however, is absent from the ballot, prompting Democrats to run a write-in campaign on his behalf. This unique situation follows a contentious dispute between New Hampshire state officials and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) regarding the state's first-in-the-nation primary status.

Former New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, a Democrat, expressed disappointment and frustration with the DNC's actions in not recognizing New Hampshire's long-standing primary status. Governor Lynch, who firmly believes in the significance of New Hampshire's role in the primary process, defended the state's commitment to maintaining its position for the next century, regardless of decisions made by the DNC, the Republican National Committee (RNC), or future administrations.

Concerning the impact of these decisions, Governor Lynch does not anticipate any effects on New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation status. Referring to the voters' dedication to evaluating candidates personally, he emphasized the importance of meeting candidates face-to-face, assessing their policies along with their temperament.

The ongoing write-in campaign for President Biden has raised questions about potential division among Democrats. However, Governor Lynch believes that despite frustrations regarding the dismissal of New Hampshire's primary status, most Democrats prioritize what is best for both their state and the country. The overwhelming fear of another term under Donald Trump's presidency unites them in their determination to elect Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee and subsequently as the President of the United States.

Governor Lynch expressed confidence in Biden's prospects in New Hampshire, although a specific percentage was not provided. He also highlighted the importance of New Hampshire's four electoral votes, stating that the state's status as a purple state should not be underestimated. He recalled the significance of the 2000 election when Al Gore lost New Hampshire to George W. Bush due to the presence of Ralph Nader on the ballot. Those four votes proved pivotal in determining the outcome of the election, reinforcing the idea that New Hampshire's influence should not be disregarded.

As the primary elections continue throughout the day, voters in New Hampshire's Nashua area eagerly await the results that will shape the upcoming general election and potentially influence the direction of the country.
