A fashion brand that started its journey in Bristol almost four decades ago will be opening its very first store in the city. The British clothing brand Charles Tyrwhitt has selected the Mall at Cribbs Causeway as its debut Bristol location.
Launched in 1986 when founder Nick Wheeler was living in Clifton, Charles Tyrwhitt makes high-quality menswear for all occasions. The 1,600 sq ft store will be located on the upper floor near John Lewis and is set to open this month, stocking Tyrwhitt’s full collection of high-quality, shirts, suits, casualwear, shoes and accessories.
Nick Wheeler OBE said: “I started Charles Tyrwhitt in the autumn of 1986 from my room in Victoria Square in Clifton. I was studying Geography at Bristol University but found my little shirt venture rather more exciting than oxbow lakes and capital cities around the world.

"When I left Bristol the following year, I had no idea that it would take me 37 years to ‘come home’. So, I am now super-excited to be opening our 46th store in Cribbs Mall. ‘Better late than never’, you might say. It also gives me the perfect excuse to come back and visit my favourite city.”
The new store - set to open on March 23 - will also include its shirt recycling scheme where customers can bring in old shirts - ‘Tyrwhitt or not’ - and be rewarded with discounts on new ones. There will be an official launch event on Saturday, March 25 with a special opening offer of 20 per cent off in store, as well as prize draws and lots more.
Charles Tyrwhitt's new outlet comes as Cribbs Mall continues the expansion of its fashion offering. This has included the arrival of popular brands such as Kurt Geiger, Carvela, Tommy Hilfiger, and Mango in recent months, although the latter is yet to announce an opening date.
Scott Linard, Portfolio Director at M&G Real Estate, said: “Large regional retail centres in strategic, accessible locations such as Cribbs Mall continue to attract leading retail brands thanks to consistently strong footfall. Cribbs Mall is well known for its extensive fashion and clothing offer, and we are delighted to welcome such a recognisable brand in Charles Tyrwhitt.
“We are particularly excited for Cribbs Mall customers to see Charles Tyrwhitt’s innovative and sustainable new in-store features, as it comes at a time when retailers look to create fresh and immersive spaces which appeal to today’s consumers who enjoy the hybrid approach of online and experiential in-store retail. Over the course of the year, we hope to announce further new lettings as we grow our diverse mix of tenants to ensure Cribbs Mall remains the South West’s premier shopping destination.”
Charles Tyrwhitt will be open at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, Bristol BS34 5DG. Monday - Friday (9.30am - 8pm), Saturday (9am - 8pm), Sunday (11am - 5pm)
