New Evidence Emerges In Gilgo Beach Serial Killings Case

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney reacts as new charges are read against Rex Heuermann, charged in the Gilgo Beach serial killings on Long Island, during a hearing at Suffolk County Court i

A New York attorney has come forward with new evidence in the ongoing investigation of the Gilgo Beach serial killings. John Ray, representing the family of Shannan Gilbert, who went missing in 2010 after calling 911, disputes the police conclusion that her death was accidental. The search for Gilbert led to the discovery of 10 other bodies, including victims allegedly linked to suspected serial killer Rex Heuermann.

Ray has raised concerns that Heuermann may not have acted alone and represents multiple women who claim to have survived encounters with him. Despite these claims, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney maintains that Heuermann's family was not involved in the crimes and were out of town during the murders.

Heuermann, who has pleaded not guilty, faces new murder charges in connection with the deaths of Jessica Taylor in 2003 and Sandra Costilla in 1993. Both victims suffered brutal fates, with Costilla enduring 25 post-mortem stab wounds and Taylor being dismembered.

In 2023, Heuermann was arrested in connection with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello in 2010. Additional charges were later added for the murder of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, whose remains were found at Gilgo Beach.

Bob Macedonio, representing Heuermann's estranged wife, has refuted any claims of her involvement in the killings, stating that she was unaware of any potential double life Heuermann may have led. Heuermann is scheduled to appear in court on July 14 to face the latest charges brought against him.
