People living on a Gedling road where yellow lines were recently painted say they thought it was a "prank" when they saw the finished work. Parking issues along Wood Lane have long been raised with Nottinghamshire County Council, with drivers previously parking near the entrance to Gedling House Woods and parents using the road for the Carlton Le Willows Academy and Daises Day Nursery.
It was revealed last year that the county council were considering painting double yellow lines along the road to try and resolve the issue, with a consultation on the matter having taken place. Both double and single yellow lines have now appeared along parts of the road, with the work reportedly taking place earlier this week, but local residents say they can't believe how "shabby" it looks.
Kieran Kelly, 70, who lives just off Wood Lane, said: "It's a poor job for people who pay quite a lot of council tax. Yellow lines have been on the cards for some time and now they're here, it looks like they need doing again.

"The people who did it should have got a brush and swept all along the road to clear it before putting the paint down. Instead, they bombed over leaves, twigs, stones and whatever else was in the way.
"They have even painted over the drains. We just feel that it's a very shabby job for an area that we want to be smartening up."
David Reffin, 60, lives in the local area and was walking his dog along Wood Lane when he saw the new yellow lines. He said: "I thought the residents had actually painted these lines on themselves because it doesn't look like a council job.
"It wouldn't have surprised me either because they don't like people parking along the road up here, so I could see the people here painting their own road lines. I was surprised that the council had actually been out and done this."
Local Conservative councillors Sam Smith and Mike Adams wrote a joint statement on Facebook about the issue, saying: "The right-hand side of Wood Lane is in our ward. Mike Adams as our county councillor has escalated this poor workmanship to Nottinghamshire County Council's Highways Department in an attempt to get them redone."
A Wood Lane resident in his 60s, who did not want to be named, added: "We were actually on holiday when this was being done and so we came home to this.
"I thought some students had been around doing these as a prank or something when I saw the lines. It's not just about clearing the debris beforehand, they should have properly levelled out the Tarmac before painting the lines because it's an uneven surface and that's why it looks the way it does.
"It definitely needs the council to come back out and do a proper job." Nottinghamshire County Council has been contacted for comment.
