In a significant step towards decentralised development, 13 new districts will be coming into existence in Andhra Pradesh between 9.05 a.m. and 9.45 a.m. on April 4, taking the total number of districts to 26.
Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalle, Konaseema, Rajamhmundry, Narsapuram, Bapatla, Narsaraopet, Tirupati Sri Balaji, Annamayya, Nandyal, Sri Satya Sai and NTR Vijayawada are the new districts being carved out.
Apart from these, Kuppam, Palasa, Bobbili, Cheepurupalli, Bheemili, Kothapet, Bhimavaram, Vuyyuru, Tiruvuru, Nandigama, Bapatla, Chirala, Sattenapalli, Atmakur, Dhone, Guntakal, Dharmavaram, Puttaparthi, Rayachoti, Palamaner and Srikalahasti revenue divisions are being created.
CM’s nod
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday gave his nod for the administration of the new districts to commence on the given day during a Cabinet meeting held in virtual mode, and advised that at least 15 acres should be identified for constructing the administrative buildings.
Taking stock of the arrangements for the new districts, Mr. Jagan said the offices of the Collector and Superintendents of Police (SPs) and also their camp offices should be located in the same complex in the district headquarters.
Where private buildings have been taken on rent on a temporary basis, new ones should be constructed to house the Collectorates and offices of SPs, the Chief Minister said.
Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma and other top officials told the Chief Minister that 16,600 objections and suggestions related to the creation of new districts were received and necessary steps were taken, keeping them in view. They said the Collectors made recommendations on the new districts only after the people’s representatives and the general public were consulted.
As far as the allotment of staff and postings were concerned, Presidential orders and the six-point formula were taken into account.
Check list
The officials said a checklist of the facilities was prepared and the same was followed to ensure that there were no hindrances in the administration of new districts. Changes required to the websites and computer software were made and hand books containing details of the new districts were printed.
Government adviser (public affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, Director-General of Police K.V. Rajendranath Reddy and other senior officials were present.
