New Disgaea 7 trailer pokes fun at anime and tourist culture

NIS America released a new Disgaea 7 trailer, introducing the upcoming RPG’s main cast and gently poking fun at anime and tourist culture. Fuji is Disgaea 7’s hero, a shameless manipulator who’s constantly in debt and finds any way he can to squeeze as much money out of his minions as possible.

Fuji calls Hinomoto home, a land known as the home of honor and bushido. He eventually meets up with Pirilika, a cat girl with a passion for all things bushido who visits Hinomoto expecting it to be the land of her dreams. She has a habit of mispronouncing words – you-don for udon and sowba for soba, for example – and can’t quite wrap her head around the fact that everyone in Hinomoto doesn’t walk around like characters from a samurai novel.

Regardless of the friction between the two, Fuji ends up recruiting Pirilika for his money-making schemes, and it seems like the two will probably grow close at some point. There’s a hint of Seraphina and Killia in Disgaea 5 with these two, both of whom are comically different from each other, but are forced to fight for each other’s beliefs.

Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless launches for PS4 and PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch sometime in fall 2023. NIS America hasn’t revealed the rest of the main cast just yet or how the newest entry in the long-running strategy game series might differentiate itself from previous games on the battlefield.
