TWO new direct routes connecting Scotland with Germany are set to launch next year.
Discover Airlines has announced it will begin flying from Glasgow Airport to Frankfurt and Munich in 2027, marking the Lufthansa Group airline's first services to Scotland.
Flights to Frankfurt will begin on March 29 and operate up to six times a week, while a summer service to Munich will launch on May 16 and run up to twice weekly.
The announcement will restore direct connections between Glasgow and the two German cities and give passengers access to onward flights through Lufthansa Group's hubs.
Marco Götz, chief commercial officer at Discover Airlines, said: "We're delighted to add Glasgow to our route network and, with it, welcome our very first destination in Scotland.
"We're seeing growing demand for destinations that offer space, nature and opportunities to explore the outdoors, and Scotland delivers all of this in abundance.
"We look forward to connecting travellers from Frankfurt and Munich with Glasgow, with our new flights providing the only nonstop connections between these cities and Scotland's largest city."
Chris Tibbett, aviation director at AGS Airports, said Germany was an "incredibly important market for Scotland".
He added: "These services significantly strengthen Glasgow Airport's connectivity to one of Europe's largest economies while reconnecting passengers to the extensive Lufthansa Group network beyond.
"There is also a fantastic leisure opportunity. Whether it's a weekend exploring Munich's famous beer gardens, experiencing Frankfurt's vibrant city centre, or welcoming more German visitors to Glasgow and Scotland, these routes create real benefits on both sides."
Economy, Tourism and Transport Secretary Stephen Flynn welcomed Discover Airlines' first move into the Scottish market.
He said: "Germany is Scotland's largest European inbound visitor market and the launch of services from Glasgow to both Frankfurt and Munich will help grow the economic benefits of tourism and provide important connectivity for business.
"This announcement is a huge show of confidence in the Scottish market, and I wish Discover every success with these routes, which I'm sure will prove popular with passengers and tourists alike."
Glasgow City Council leader Susan Aitken said the announcement was "great news for tourists and business travellers alike", while highlighting the potential for stronger economic links with Germany.
The Frankfurt service will operate up to six times weekly from March 29, 2027, with the Munich route operating twice weekly from May 16.
