New Derry to Dublin service expected to start next month

After the news that Aircoach has acquired Derry-based travel company Airporter, progress has been swift in launching the new service.

The new service is expected to start next month and will create a travel route to Derry to Dublin via Belfast International Airport and Dublin Airport.

As well as allowing those in Derry another route to reach Dublin, this new service will also give travellers landing in Dublin Airport another route in accessing the Walled City.

Attending the launch in the city this week, SDLP Foyle MLA Sinead McLaughlin said: "Met with Aircoach today at the launch of their North West service that will connect Derry to Belfast International Airport, Dublin Airport and Dublin City Centre.

"Routes will run seven days a week with first service arriving into Derry at 06:05am. Bookings are due to open in the coming weeks on aircoach.ie

"Mark H Durkan has secured a follow up meeting to discuss introducing concessionary fares, particularly for senior citizens, as this is an issue we have already had many people in touch about."

Hosting the launch, Bishops Gate Hotel in Derry said: "Welcome to the North West Aircoach!

"We were delighted to host the launch of the North West Aircoach service in our Northern Counties Ballroom today.
The company will provide a direct transfer route from Dublin airport to the Walled City, providing easy access for international visitors."

The new service brings 12 new services to Derry along with a range of new benefits for customers including routes running seven days a week with first service arriving into Derry at 06:05am.

The serivce stops at Glengal Street, Belfast, Belfast International Airport, Drumahoe Park and Ride and Foyleside Coach Park, Derry. It will also provide direct public transport connectivity between Ireland’s two largest airports for the first time.

Dervla McKay, Managing Director of Aircoach said: “Since we announced the acquisition a few weeks ago, we have been blown away by the local support and the anticipation around the launch of our new service.

“The new service will further transform airport connectivity for those in the region, reducing fares for passengers and enabling them to avail of early morning flights at the two main airports on the island of Ireland. It will be a game changer for passengers travelling to and from the North West city region and is going to open the region up to more visitors.

“It is great to have support of local businesses. Aircoach is fully committed to ensuring that the North West is connected to major travel and economic hubs to improve the attractiveness of the region as a place in which to live, work and invest.”
