According to new data from Canstar, the average yearly salaries for workers in various age brackets in Australia has now been revealed.
So now you don’t need to be concerned that everyone else in your age group is making more than you… because you can find out for sure!
Bear in mind that all these salaries refer to full-time workers ONLY, rather than the amount that the median person in an age bracket is making each year. Also included in the studies was the gender-pay gap for each age group.
Additionally, the following numbers are the middle-of-the-road average for the age bracket, with no specificity for any type of job or industry.

How much should you be making in your teens?
Ahhh, the mid-to-late teens. When some are getting their first job, or some are picking up a trade full-time. Across the many different employment options available to a person who legally can’t lease a car, there are many different salaries.
But the average salary for a full-time working teen is between $40k and $42k per year.

How much should you be making in your early 20s?
Oh lord, time flies by so fast. Last thing you knew you were in high school, and suddenly you’re studying. Or in the work force. Or getting married. Life is all too much in your early 20s, there are too many things to do — and pay for!
But with more age and responsibilities, also comes more dough. The average for a full-time working Aussie in their early 20s is between $60k-$62k per year.

How much should you be making in your late 20s and early 30s?
This stage of life is basically the new teenage years, let’s be real. Everyone knows that 30 is the new 21, so really, who cares what you earn at this point? There’s still so much life ahead to bank it in.
According to Canstar, the average Aussie full-time worker in this age bracket makes between $78k-$83k per year.

How much should you be making in your late 30s and early 40s?
At this point, many of life’s disappointing realities have more than settled in. A great example of that is how much bigger the pay gap you’re about to see is between men and women, RIP.
The average Aussie in their late 30s to early 40s makes between $83k-$103k per year.

How much should you be making in your late 40s and early 50s?
This one doesn’t apply to most young people reading this, because by the time we get to this age bracket, there will have been some form of economic or environmental disaster/global conflict that will either kill us all or change the data drastically.
But in 2024, the average salary of an Aussie working full-time in their early 50s is between $85k-$101k per year.

How much should you be making in your late 50s?
Notably, at this point is when lots of the average salaries begin to decline, due to factors such as retirement. Or death. I don’t know, I don’t do numbers.
The average Aussie full-time worker makes between $83k-$96k per year in their late 50s.

Finally, for those in their 60s and beyond, the data from Canstar reveals that people in this age bracket make between between $83k-$96k per year.
