New Bristol city centre restaurant and bar opens at Old Vic

Bristol Old Vic has launched a brand new food and drink venue. Called Kitchen + Bar, it occupies the indoor and outdoor cafe area of the theatre in King Street.

The team there says Kitchen + Bar features a vibrant range of locally sourced, deli-fresh food that complements expertly made coffee and a large selection of drinks. Served all day from Monday to Saturday, customers will be able to eat and drink at the new venue for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

It is a partnership with Bristol Event Catering, a local independent company that is said to be quickly building a reputation for its modern approach to food creativity. New chef Luke Spencer-Harrop previously cooked at a number of Bristol pubs including The Bank Tavern, Inn on The Green and Alma Tavern.

There will be a brunch menu served from 9am-3pm. Dishes include baked eggs with tomato and smoked mackerel, and Iranian vegetable stew with lemon yoghurt. The lunch menu is served from 12noon-4pm and includes sandwiches, salads and freshly baked tarts and cakes.

On Fridays, Kitchen + Bar will also sell a selection of Pippins doughnuts. In the evening, the focus will be on ‘small plates’.

These include River Axe mussels, tomatoes, parsley and coconut broth; Westcombe Cheddar croquettes with chimichurri, and seared Stokes Farm 8oz onglet steak with harissa ketchup.

Desserts include burnt Basque cheesecake and roast pear, and dark chocolate and passion fruit mousse with raspberries and ice cream. There will also be a selection of Marshfield Farm ice cream tubs.
