New 'bring back Boris' petition claims 10,000 signatures in two days

A petition calling for Boris Johnson to return as Prime Minister has been signed by more than 10,000 Conservative Party members and supporters in its first two days. The petition, organised by Conservative Post, follows another during the summer that saw more than 15,000 members demand a vote on keeping Mr Johnson in Downing Street.

The Express says that speculation is mounting that Liz Truss could quit as early as today - 41 days after taking office - while Mr Johnson is on a speaking tour of the USA. It says that members of the party have vented their fury at MPs and the leadership as Ms Truss' government has spiralled out of control with her tax and domestic policy agenda ripped up by Jeremy Hunt, the man she brought in to save her government.

Mr Hunt cancelled almost all the tax cuts in the mini-Budget which got her elected in a brutal leadership contest over the summer. MPs claim that the new Chancellor, who was only appointed on Friday, is the "de facto Prime Minister".
