A new bid has been made to solve the mystery of a young married joiner who disappeared 28 years ago.
Kevin McGuire went missing on December 31, 1994, from his remote home in Stronachlachar in Perthshire after an argument with his new wife Lisa on where they should spend the New Year. The 27-year-old Glaswegian stormed out of the house, got into his green Saab and was never seen again.
Now Kevin’s family – including his mum Annette, 77 – have joined forces with the UK-wide Missing Persons Support group.
Missing Persons Support, which has 16,000 members, has drafted a new poster detailing Kevin’s disappearance and new contact details for the police and Crimestoppers.
Kevin’s sister Sharon Garvin, 49, who lives in County Clare in Ireland, said: “Things never get easier for us despite the passage of time. We are hoping the poster could give us the breakthrough we are looking for.
"It may be that there are people out there who have information on Kevin and haven’t contacted the police for whatever reason. Hopefully they will recognise the photograph or description.”
Sharon contacted Caroline Lyons of Missing Persons Support last year who offered to help with a poster. It will be circulated nationally on the organisation’s Facebook page and other social media sites. Kevin’s disappearance remains one of Scotland’s most baffling and longest-running missing persons cases.
At the time police searches of nearby lochs failed to locate Kevin or his car. Investigators feared he had lost control and plunged into the icy waters. However, no tyre or skid marks were found. In the past year Kevin’s family have made several appeals for information.
Four months ago they hired a specialist underwater search and recovery team – Beneath The Surface – to try to find Kevin and his car. They carried out trawls of nearby lochs but without success.
A year ago Sharon spoke publicly for the first time about her missing brother to the Sunday Mail. She said: “No matter where he was in the world, he’d always ring our mother.”
Police said: “Any new information will be thoroughly investigated.”
