The Scottish Government has announced that a new benefit set to replace Carer’s Allowance, currently delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will start rolling out across the country at the end of next year.
Social Security Minister Ben Macpherson said the new devolved benefit, called Carer’s Assistance, would be fully implemented in 2024. It will be administered by Social Security Scotland and support more than 90,000 people who provide 35 hours a week of care to those receiving certain disability benefits.
Mr Macpherson addressed MSPs in Holyrood on Thursday afternoon, updating them on the progress of benefits being administered from Scotland.
