New baby shop at Trafford Centre where everything you buy can be personalised while you wait

This is the quirky new baby store inside the Trafford Centre where children's gifts and clothes can all be personalised for free while you wait. My 1st Years is well-known for its range of personalised childrenswear and baby gifts online, but this is the first time they've had a physical store in the UK.

They've opened a shiny new concession inside Selfridges at the Trafford Centre and the BIG selling point for parents or people buying gifts is that everything can be personalised with stitched names on the shop floor. You can either wait while it's stitched on the shop floor, or arrange a time to return while you shop.

You can get baby names stitched on to an array of items in the store, including jackets, dunagrees, dressing gowns, soft toys, dolls and blankets. The brand is also popular for baby gift sets, where you can get baby names and dates of birth stitched on to cellular cot blankets.

The stitching machine is currently in store, and from this weekend will take pride of place at the heart of the My 1st Years concession where staff will be busy getting children's names stitched on to goods. The brand's unique selling point is that everything is priced with personalisation included.

And if you're buying items for expectant mums, the shop also offers the option of bringing the newborn gift items back to have the birth date added once the newborn has arrived.

If you're wondering how to get around not knowing what baby name a friend or family member is going for ahead of time, then the store assistants suggest "Baby XXX" with the surname is a popular way around it.

Also popular at the moment is buying matching items for siblings. That way you can go for "Big Sister/Brother, Little Sister/Brother" and the like rather than just their names.

Prices start at £22 for comforter blankets with toy, and you're looking at paying £34 for a denim jacket, £36 for a dinosaur robe and backpacks from £22. On the gifting side you can buy adorable baby blankets from £22 up to £80 for pure cashmere blankets.

The age range for clothing in store is from newborn up to 4-5 year old sizes, although a wider age range is available to purchase online. However all orders purchased in store have to be collected in store with no delivery available.

The shop has already had a busy start after opening at the start of this month, and next week their full Christmas range also lands on the shelves. That will include My 1st Years' popular range of personalised Christmas stockings and sacks, and festive-themed dressing gowns.

For the opening period, the concession will also pack your items in a free gift box for all purchases over £40. My 1st Years was founded in 2009 by entrepreneurs Dan Price and Jonny Sitton and is said to be the number one personalised baby brand in the world.

The British-made brand has been used by many a celebrity over the years and even royalty. And staff said there have already been some high profile famous parents-to-be in the Trafford Centre store since opening too.

Gareth Chadwick from the brand said: “We are thrilled to find a new home in Selfridges at the Trafford Centre, reaching new customers in a luxury and inspiring shopping destination.

"Our personalisation sets up apart from other baby and child brands and being able to offer this ‘on the spot’ in Selfridges, we’re adding that extra special element to shopping, ensuring that each customer leaves with products that will be loved and treasured.”
