The latest substrain of the fast-spreading Omicron variant has been named Centaurus and health experts and virologists across the globe have voiced their concern. The latest strain of Covid-19 is being closely monitored due to its yet-unknown potential impact.
Centaurus, or BA.2.75 variant as it is also know, is rapidly spreading in India as well making ground in the UK in recent weeks.
It was first detected in India in early May and after arriving in the United Kingdom, cases have been moving in an upward trend - faster than those of the extremely transmissible BA.5 variant, according Irish Mirror. It has also been detected in at least ten other countries so far, including the US, Australia, Germany and Canada.
