Suppliers to the West Australian government will be put under the microscope to stamp out wage theft in high-risk industries.

An audit branch at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety will ensure suppliers fulfil their obligations to workers.

Auditors will focus on contracts for industries including cleaning and security.

"This represents another step towards combating wage theft," Industrial Relations Minister Bill Johnston said.

Mr Johnston said the government was committed to ensuring suppliers complied with employment laws.

"The changes to whole of government procurement templates help to ensure that government suppliers comply with employment and industrial relations obligations for their employees," Finance Minister Tony Buti said.
