New Anfield mural unveiled ahead of charity auction as more Liverpool greats honoured

Liverpool Football Club have unveiled a collection of new murals outside Anfield, which pay homage to some of the greatest forwards in the club's modern history.

With the Anfield Road end of the ground currently undergoing major renovation work as the club continues its expansion project which will take the stadium's capacity to 61,000, local street art company MurWalls were handed the opportunity to add some decoration to the surrounding area.

Having completed a mural of manager Jurgen Klopp a stone's throw away on Thursday morning, Murwalls quickly turned their attention to their next project which saw them illustrate the hoardings currently fencing off the expansion project onsite at Anfield.

The redevelopment is due to be completed next summer, meaning that Liverpool and Klopp will be able to welcome a record crowd to Anfield for a league game next season, surpassing the 58,757 that attended the club's Division One clash with Chelsea in the 1949/1950 season.

Ian Rush, Sir Kenny Dalglish, John Aldridge, Dirk Kuyt, Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres and Robbie Fowler have all been illustrated on the first half of the hoarding. And the stars of Klopp's seven years on Merseyside take up the second part; with Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Divock Origi, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez also illustrated.

Marc Silver, founder and CEO of MurWalls, lifted the lid on the collaboration with Liverpool Football Club after finishing the project, which will see the artwork auctioned off and the raised funds donated to the Liverpool Foundation once the Anfield Road end expansion is complete next year.

"We wanted to create some artwork for the community whilst the building work is in progress," said Silver. "Together with LFC, we came up with the concept to celebrate the club's attacking legends.

"Going back 25 years to present day and working with our MurWalls artist team, each one is a different style for each individual portrait."
