New 'adapted' Covid vaccine effective against Omicron being rolled out in Ireland

Those eligible for a Covid booster vaccine this winter will be given a new adapted dose that is effective in fighting against previous strains as well as the dominant Omicron variant.

An online portal has gone live for everyone deemed eligible for a Covid-19 booster vaccine this winter - including people aged 50 to 64, pregnant women and healthcare workers.

This is according to HSE National Lead for the Test, Trace and Vaccination Programme Eileen Whelan who confirmed the new “bivalent adapted vaccine” is in use in Ireland since October 3.
