Eddie Howe is eager to add to his Newcastle United squad before next Saturday's opener against Nottingham Forest. The Magpies have now gone almost a month without making a transfer breakthrough but it isn't through the want of trying. Howe wants two forward players to spice up competition at United.
But when asked if that would be before the clash with Forest, Howe said: "Never say never. "I have been in the game long enough to not give you a definite answer on that.
"I think as the days go by it looks more and more unlikely but we are trying. "As we have been all window really.

"We are desperate to try to improve the group if we can with the right player. "No definite answer though (on whether Newcastle will get somebody before Forest)."
Newcastle now face Athletic Bilbao at St James' Park and despite a couple of injury scares, Howe is pleased with the condition of his stars. Howe added: "Based on the evidence of Atalanta I am very pleased with the players we have and how they look physically.
"We didn't make subs in the game until very late. "The players were tired but they were still running and contributing to a very good team performance against excellent opponents.
"You could see the effects of pre-season and how we dealt with a physical test. "It will be interesting to see how the players deal with tomorrow."
