'Never doubted him' - Chelsea fans send Marcos Alonso Barcelona message after goal vs Man United

Sections of the Chelsea fanbase have reminisced about Marcos Alonso's time at Stamford Bridge following his goal against Manchester United. The former Blues defender handed Barcelona the lead shortly after the first-half break with a towering header at the back post.

Alonso was a key fixture in the Spanish giants' Champions League campaign, featuring in all but one of the group clashes. Though after failing to qualify to the knockout stages, the 32-year-old now has his eyes set on lifting the Europa League title.

Erik ten Hag's side stand in Barcelona's way as the sides vies for a place in the round of 16. Alonso secured what could be a crucial goal in the first-leg at the Camp Nou and, with lots of eyes on the United tie, Chelsea supporters have rejoiced in the defender's performance.

Alonso spent six years at Stamford Bridge, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in that time. Upon his departure in the summer, he penned an emotional goodbye message.

The statement read: "Can’t thank you enough for the six years we spent together. It’s been a real honour to defend the blue colour around the world and to write the history of this great club.

"Special mention to Mr. Roman Abramovich and Antonio Conte for giving me the chance at the very beginning. All the people at the club, stadium and training ground thank you. Managers, teammates, medical staff lead by Dr. Paco Biosca, kitmen etc… it was a pleasure to share the changing room with you all these years.

"Of course, to the fans thank you for your support since day one. It’s thanks to you that Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world so keep the blue flag flying high. Yours forever, running down the left wing for you. M."
