Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki has been spotted filming scenes for the new series of Netflix's royal drama The Crown and looks the spitting image of Princess Diana.
The 31-year-old has taken over the iconic role of the Princess of Wales for the fifth and six series from Emma Corrin.
Emma Corrin played the role of the younger Lady Diana Spencer and her early years of meeting and marrying Prince Charles, whilst Elizabeth Debicki will now play the part up until her death in August 1997, the Mirror reports.
In new pictures which tease what's in store for the fifth series, Elizabeth has been spotted filming scenes in Croydon, South London battling off paparazzi to try and get into a black taxi cab.
The new series will be available to stream in November 2022.
Fans have also been teased with a glimpse of the star recreating her appearance at London’s Royal Albert Hall for the Royal Gala performance of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake on June 3rd 1997.
On the casting announcement, Debicki had said: “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”
The new series will see Dominic West take over from Josh O'Connor to play an older version of husband Prince Charles, meanwhile Imelda Staunton will take on the latest incarnation of Queen Elizabeth II.
Filming on The Crown had to shut down last month after, according to The Independent, eight crew members reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.
“The Crown finished filming one day earlier than planned for the Christmas break following a few positive cases within the team, thus ensuring others’ safety and so that everyone on production can enjoy a festive break with their loved ones,” a statement from Netflix read.
Filming restarted in the New Year, with this series set in the mid-1990s, focusing on Charles and Diana’s bitter public divorce.
Writer Peter Morgan has already penned the episode that will feature Diana’s tragic death but insisted that it will not show the crash in the tunnel in Paris.
It was recently reported that Prince William voiced his displeasure at The Crown featuring a re-enactment of Diana’s controversial interview with former BBC journalist Martin Bashir for Panorama.
