It's the news Heartstopper fans have been waiting on for weeks - and it's finally arrived. Netflix has confirmed that it has renewed the hit LGBTQ+ coming of age series for not just one, but two seasons.
Since being released in April 2022, the series - which is based on the graphic novels by Alice Oseman - has reached the Netflix Top Ten list in 54 countries and received an 100 per cent critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's developed a huge fandom, over on TikTok the Heartstopper hashtag has now reached over 4.3bn views.
In a post on Twitter, Netflix dropped the announcement saying: "To those who have fallen in love with Nick & Charlie, cried watching Alice Oseman's magical story brought to life, or felt represented for the first time on-screen, I am elated to announce... Heartstopper has been renewed for TWO MORE SEASONS!"
Heartstopper creator and writer Alice Oseman shared the news with her 432k Twitter followers saying: "Seasons 2 and 3, here we come!!!". In a report from Netflix Tudum, the creator said: “We were overjoyed with the global reaction to Heartstopper and can’t wait to continue the story with two more seasons. Watch this space!”
The announcement has already received huge support from fans of the Netflix series, with more than 40k likes on the post so far. Joe Locke, who plays Charlie Spring, posted a series of behind the scenes pictures on Twitter adding the caption: "What was that? Not just one, but TWO more seasons???". "Not just one but TWO MORE SEASONS!!!! Can’t wait to tell more of this beautiful story" Tobie Donovan who plays Isaac added.
Since the series made it's debut, lead stars Joe Lock and Kit Connor (Nick Nelson) have taken the nation, and the world, by storm. Their Instagram followings have since exploded, with Kit now at 3.4M and Joe Locke at 2.5M and that's not all.
Another star of the series Yasmin Finney, who plays Charlie's friend Elle, was also recently revealed to have joined the cast of Doctor Who. Yasmin will star as Rose in scenes set to air in 2023 to coincide with DW's 60th anniversary.
