Netflix's live-action 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' series is seeing a shift in leadership as Albert Kim, the original show developer and Season 1 showrunner, steps down. Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani will now take the reins as executive producers for the upcoming seasons. Netflix has confirmed the renewal of the show for two more seasons, culminating with Season 3. Boylan, who previously served as co-executive producer on Season 1, and Raisani, an executive producer, director, and VFX supervisor, will lead the show moving forward. Kim will continue as an executive producer for Seasons 2 and 3.
Kim's decision to explore new opportunities after the extensive development process of 'Last Airbender' has led him to sign a deal with Disney to work as an executive producer on the 'Percy Jackson' series while also developing new projects for the company. Boylan's impressive resume includes work on the Peacock series 'Poker Face,' Netflix-Marvel's 'The Punisher,' Amazon's 'Citadel,' and Freeform's 'Cloak and Dagger.' She is also known for her work as a playwright and comic book writer for various renowned publishers.
Raisani, in addition to his contributions to 'Last Airbender,' has worked on VFX for popular shows like 'Lost in Space,' 'Stranger Things,' 'Game of Thrones,' and 'The Flash.' He has also directed episodes for 'Lost in Space' and 'Last Airbender.' The live-action adaptation of 'Last Airbender' is based on the beloved Nickelodeon animated series of the same name.
The first season of the live-action series featured a talented cast including Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Ken Leung, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, and Daniel Dae Kim. Alongside Albert Kim and Raisani, Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore serve as executive producers on behalf of Rideback, with Michael Goi also in an executive producer role. Goi directed the initial two episodes, while Raisani helmed episodes three and four. Roseanne Liang directed episodes five and six, with Jet Wilkinson concluding the season by directing the final two episodes.
