Netflix has dropped a new game show that fans are saying is like a “real life Squid Game but better.” The South Korean reality show Physical: 100 sees 100 musclebound contestants compete against each other in various physical tests, all in the hopes of winning nearly £200,000.
It is inspired by the hit 2021 drama Squid Game, in which a host of debt-ridden contestants compete in a series of deadly children’s games in a bid to claim a huge cash prize. In the new reality show, 100 contestants of different ages, races and genders must prove their strength in a series of unconventional physical challenges, only without the violent deaths like those in Squid Game.
Throughout the series, players get eliminated until just one remains, with “the final physique standing” earning a whopping ₩300m (£196,410). The players are guided by a disguised voice similar to that of Squid Game’s masked villain, who addresses and instructs the contestants during the intense competition.

He says: “To study the most perfect physique, regardless of gender, age, and race, we invited you all here. We have prepared five quests to find the most perfect physique.”
Among the contestants are Olympic medalists, champion bodybuilders and social media influencers. From MMA fighters and mountain rescuers to zombie choreographers, the 100 players represent the peak of physical fitness, some of whom are well known in South Korea and beyond.

The series has proved a hit just days after its release, and currently sits sixth in Netflix most-watched programmes in the UK. Fans have even argued that Physical: 100 is better than its fictional predecessor.
Praising the show on Twitter: @ItsOnly_Tommy said: “This new show #Physical100 on Netflix might be one of the greatest athletic shows I’ve ever seen!!”
@TalmageMcG said “Physical_100 is the wildest thing I have ever seen.”
@rajanshah_ said: “Best thing on #Netflix right now. You can’t change my mind. Real life Squid Game but better.”
It comes as contestants filming a Squid Game-style game show in the UK received treatment for “minor medical conditions“ during filming earlier this month. Episodes one and two of Physical: 100 are available to stream on Netflix now, with further episodes released weekly.
