Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's rejection of President Donald Trump's latest Gaza roadmap may look like another dispute over Hamas disarmament. But the timing gives the confrontation another dimension: Israel votes in less than three months, and Netanyahu cannot afford to lose voters or political partners to his right.
Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel does not accept the 15-point roadmap promoted by Trump's Board of Peace and insisted Israeli troops would not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas had been completely disarmed, including both heavy and light weapons. Discussions with Washington are continuing, he said, but some U.S. proposals remain unacceptable.
