Closing summary

  • Israeli forces raided the Kamal Adwan hospital, one of only three medical facilities on the northern edge of the Gaza Strip, on Friday, ordering dozens of patients and hundreds of others to evacuate the compound, officials said. “The occupation forces are inside the hospital now and they are burning it,” Munir Al-Bursh, director of the health ministry in Gaza, said.

  • At least 45,436 Palestinian people have been killed and 108,038 injured in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since 7 October 2023, the Gaza health ministry said. Of those, 37 Palestinians were killed and 98 injured in the latest 24-hour reporting period, the ministry said.

  • Houthi rebels in Yemen claimed to have retaliated against Israeli airstrikes on Sana’a’s airport early on Friday with a missile aimed at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport and a drone attack on Tel Aviv. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said their defences intercepted the ballistic missile before it reached Israeli airspace. It came after Israel struck multiple targets linked to the Iran-aligned Houthi movement in Yemen on Thursday, including the international airport in the capital, Sana’a. Houthi media said at least six people were killed.

  • Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel’s airstrikes on Yemen would “continue until the job is done”. “We are determined to cut this branch of terrorism from the Iranian axis of evil,” he said in a video statement.

A spokesperson for the French foreign ministry has “strongly condemned” missile and drone strikes by Yemen’s Houthi rebels against Israel (see post at 09.07 for more details). “France reiterates that these attacks, as well as many others perpetrated by Huthis against commercial shipping in the Red Sea and against Israeli territory since over a year ago, are unacceptable, destabilising and must cease immediately,” the spokesperson said, adding that France remained committed “to regional stability and the security of Israel”.
