Nestlé has decided to scrap a coffee product to the disappointment of shoppers who were gutted by the news.
The food and drinks giant confirmed it has scrapped Coffee Mate Light, a lactose-free coffee creamer, in the UK. Nestlé have said that the original Coffee Mate is already low in fat and contains less than 40 calories for each serving.
Shoppers in the UK had noticed the item disappearing from shelves over the past month and took to social media to ask Nestlé what had happened to it.
One Twitter user asked: "Hi there has the coffee mate light been stopped as can't seem to find any in the Glasgow area, thanks".
Another, asking when the item would be restocked said that they are "beyond desperate" for the milk alternative.
Responding to this, the official Nestlé UK & Ireland Twitter account wrote: "We're very sorry to say we have made the decision to discontinue Coffee Mate Light.
"Coffee Mate Original is low fat and low sugar when prepared, and a mug of coffee made using Coffee Mate Original contains less than 40 calories per mug."
A further person appeared to be disappointed with the change, writing: "The standard version tastes very different to the light version which i much prefer".
This comes as the firm, which also makes KitKat and Nescafé, last month reported that profits had tumbled by 45 percent amid rampant food inflation. Last year, the firm pushed up the prices of its products by 8.2 percent on average.
Kantar, which publishes UK food inflation figures, stated that shoppers are adapting rising prices by opting for more own-brand and budget-friendly when releasing their February report.
