Nepal authorities mistakenly name British aid worker as flood survivor

Authorities in Nepal mistakenly announced that British aid worker Alastair Chambers had been rescued from severe flash floods .
The former Gloucester councillor explained the mix-up occurred when police took his details after he landed at an army barracks in Kathmandu on a humanitarian flight.
Mr Chambers had travelled to Nepal independently to distribute vital supplies, including sleeping bags and water purification tools, and assist with recovery efforts.
He was contacted by numerous journalists following a Nepali Army statement that incorrectly listed a British national among 119 rescued individuals.
The Foreign Office confirmed that 36 British nationals remain unaccounted for in Nepal, as the UK Government pledged £5 million in humanitarian aid.
